Watching out on the river
Amongst the low trees

As your eyes grow weak
And you day becomes night
In the clackety-click of
Your updated friendlessness

a soft turn of the head
eyes drifting to the side
a smile that carries a weight

the swirl of the last glass
the clock pressing onward
the pressure of a void
ending the softened night
as the walk home begins

I have come to the village
Out of the wilderness
To raise the child
With you
And me
And this life

Love is all
Or so I've been told
By even song and dance
Until I am left alone
To find for myself
The center of that web

pretty green
covered in snowy white
smothering everything
covering up the mistakes
and eating them away slowly
as the water seeps in

Flow together down to the ocean
Spreading across the endless waves
Drifting into the deeps
Crossing the boundless waves
Settling into openness
